
MATH fourth and fifth grade
Please
be sure your child knows his or her addition, subtraction, multiplication, and
division facts. This is crucial for your child in order to experience success
in math.
Each
fourth and grader is responsible for creating his or her vocabulary file
folder. Please provide your child with index cards and tape needed to complete
this through out the year.

PLEASE practice and review skills at home.
Fourth grade
Unit 3- the emphasis in this unit is
gaining proficiency with multiplication and division facts as well as using a
variety of strategies, such as adding to known facts and doubling facts.
Chapter 7- Use properties of
multiplication, multiply facts through 12, review patterns in a multiplication
table, and use skills and strategies to solve problems.
Chapter 8- Divide facts through 12,
use inverse operations of multiplication and division, and use expressions to
multiply and divide, use skills and strategies to solve word problems.

The book’s practice and problem solving pages may be used to
review and strengthen the skills taught in class. If you feel your child could
use some extra practice, please do this work on loose leaf paper. This will
count as extra credit to his or her math grade. The workbooks will be used for
the homework assignments.
Fifth Grade
Unit 5- The emphasis of this unit is mastery of basic
understanding of fractions as numbers, including concepts of greater common
factor, least common denominator, and simplest form.
Chapter 9
–Students will learn: writing composite numbers as products of primes, finding
the GCF, Finding equivalent fractions, and simplifying fractions.
Chapter
10-Students will learn: finding the LCM and LCD; relating fractions and
decimals: comparing and ordering fractions, mixed numbers and decimals.
Unit 6-
the emphasis of this unit is mastery of addition and subtraction of fractions
and mixed numbers, including estimation. Properties of addition are applied to
fractions.
Chapter
11- Students will learn: adding fractions and mixed numbers with like and
unlike denominators, applying properties of addition to fraction and mixed
numbers.
