The following is a list of helpful information and procedures for
my classes. These procedures will be discussed in the first few weeks of the school year.
Please take the time to familiarize yourself with them before the beginning of the new
school year.
IN THE HOMEROOM
Assignment Notebooks The books should be used everyday
to insure the student knows what is for homework that evening. Please encourage your
student to use the assignment notebook.
Tardiness Being tardy to school REQUIRES a note from
home explaining why the student is tardy. Please do not call the office to say you are
running late. The office has many other duties to take care of in the morning. Any student
who does not bring in a note will not be able to participate in recess.
Absences When a child is absent, please call the school
office to alert us that your child will not be in school that day. Homework may be
requested at this time but cannot be ready for pick up until 3:00pm. When a student returns to school he or she must
ask all of his/her teachers about the assignments he/she has missed. It is not up to the
teachers to track down students for missing work. It is the responsibility of the student
to make sure he/she knows what work is owed.
This is an important year because this years report card is
sent to your students future high school. High schools do take into consideration
the number of days absent and tardy. You want to make a good impression to your future
high school so please try to attend everyday and avoid being tardy.
On another note, if your child is sick, they should stay home! If
your child is not feeling well they should stay home to avoid passing germs onto others.

Morning
Classroom
Procedures
1. Walk into the classroom silently. There will be no
talking in the mornings in homeroom.
2. Go to your assigned desk and unpack your school
bag.
3. Read any notes written on the front chalkboard.
4. Go to your locker and hang up your coat and take
any materials you will need for your morning classes and then return to your desk.
5. Place office mail in the bin on the table and place
any notes for the teacher on her desk calendar.
6. Pick up the Bell Work and begin working on the
assignment at your own seat.
7. Everyone should be working quietly at his or her
own seat by 8:10am.
8. Stand for prayers and the Pledge at 8:15.
9. After prayers, line up quickly and quietly to go to
your first class.
10. In the hallway, students should line up in a single
file line against the wall, always remaining quiet.
11. Students will not be allowed to return to the
classroom for forgotten books, notebooks, materials, or homework.
12. If a teacher requests for a student to return to
the homeroom for forgotten materials, the student will lose their recess privileges for
the day.
13. If a student needs to speak to me about a private
matter, the student should leave me a note on my desk in the morning and I will speak with
that student before classes begin.
Reading
Class Procedures
- Enter class
quickly and quietly.
- Take out your
Reading book, notebook, and homework and place it on your desk. All other books should be
in your bag, on the floor or in your locker.
- Novels should be
covered with a paper cover so another student does not pick it up by mistake. Do not place
tape on the book. Your name should be on the paper cover. Students will have to pay for
any books damaged throughout the year.
- Have a blue or
black pen as well as a red pen on your desk. Other colored pens and any kind of markers
should not be used in class. No liquid paper of any kind should be in school!
- Make sure
homework, quizzes, tests, papers, and projects are clearly labeled with your first and
last name. You will not receive credit if your name is not on your assignment.
- All reading
assignments must be completed on time to ensure your participation in class.
- Participate in
class. Ask questions. Work to the best of your ability!
- You must ask to
get out of your seat, even for a tissue or to throw something away.

parents about missing homework are not accepted. All students are responsible for getting
their homework completed.

- Long-term
projects are not accepted late. If you will be absent the day a major project is due, the
project must be dropped off at school in the morning.
Things you should know:
- You will receive
homework on a regular basis. Homework will not be assigned on Fridays unless it is a
long-term project.
- Your final
grades are based on homework, quizzes, tests, and projects.
- The student
should complete homework and projects with minimal help from parents.
- You must
handwrite all work in this class. Printing is unacceptable.
- Essays and
projects must be typed. If you do not have access to a computer you must make arrangements
with Ms. Teubert to type your paper after school. Students will receive advance notice of
such assignments.
- Special
circumstances affect us all. If there are any problems that affect your childs
performance or ability to get work completed, please notify Ms. Teubert immediately.
Involvement in extra-curricular activities is not an excuse for not getting assignments
completed on time.

books will be provided this year by the school:
Esperanza Rising by
Pam Munoz (students must purchase)
Chinese Cinderella by
Adeline Yen Mah
Skipping Christmas by
John Grisham
Vocabulary

mistake.
- You will be
assigned a unit of vocabulary each week.
- Students will
work independently on each unit throughout the week.
- On Fridays, the
teacher and students will orally correct the unit.
- Students will
receive a double grade for each unit.
- Review units are
worth 4 grades, and are also due on Fridays. (Every 4th week)
- On Fridays,
students will take an in-class, open book quiz, which is worth two grades.
- Students will
receive quarter grades for Vocabulary, which affect G.P.A. and honor-roll status.
- If a student
loses his or her vocabulary book, it is the responsibility of the student to make
photocopies of the units. A book fee will be charged if a replacement is needed. Books
will have to be ordered so there would be a delay.
- Cheating
is unacceptable. Any student caught cheating in any way will receive a zero for the unit
